What Was That You Said?

This poem started off inspired by life experience and then grew to follow a very cliche line of thought. You will soon understand what I mean but, I still really like how it turned out :)

I thought you said you loved me

When we were sitting on the beach

Staring at the ocean

Cuddling under the moonlight

I thought you said you loved me

When we were walking down the path

Under the branches of trees

On and on, hand in hand

I thought you said you loved me

When we were laying on the roof of your car

Staring up into the stars

Thinking about what we could become

I thought you said you loved me

When we were laying in your bed

Staring into each other’s eyes

After you’d taken the only thing that can’t be given back

I thought you said you loved me

When I was standing on the sidewalk

Looking back at the door I’d just walked through

The door to the past, the door to you

I thought you had said you loved me

I thought you said you loved

All those times we’d been together

Was I hearing things,

Or did you lie?
